TRANSLATING THE IRREDUCIBLE REPRESENTATIONS OF Sn INTO GLn(Fq)
نویسنده
چکیده
1.1. The Argument. In both Sn and GLn(Fq), we send letters (respectively, basis elements) to other letters (basis elements). In GLn we can take linear combinations, which we can’t do in Sn; but this is really the only difference. GLn, loosely speaking, is an obese, redundant version of the svelte Sn. The goal of this paper is to make this correspondence precise, to show that, under this correspondence between letters and bases, we can import many of GLn’s representations wholesale from Sn. Section 2 is based on [2]. Section 3 is based on [1].

where the LGLn(λ) are irreducible GLn(C)-modules and the S λ k are irreducible Sk-modules. The decomposition in (0.1) essentially makes the study of the representations of GLn(C) and the study of representations of the symmetric group Sk two sides of the same coin. The group GLn(C) has interesting subgroups, GLn(C) ⊇ On(C) ⊇ Sn ⊇ Sn−1, and corresponding centralizer algebras, CSk ⊆ CBk(n) ⊆ CAk(...

We consider two families Xn of varieties on which the symmetric group Sn acts: the configuration space of n points in C and the space of n linearly independent lines in C. Given an irreducible Sn-representation V , one can ask how the multiplicity of V in the cohomology groups H(Xn;Q) varies with n. We explain how the Grothendieck–Lefschetz Fixed Point Theorem converts a formula for this multip...

1.1. Background. Let q = pf be a power of a prime number p, and SLn(q) = SLn(Fq) be the special linear group over the field Fq with q elements. Let F be an algebraically closed field of characteristic l ≥ 0. We are interested in parametrizing irreducible representations of SLn(q) over F. If l = p, this is well known: a parametrization is given by the so-called q-restricted dominant weights, see...
متن کاملAn Exceptional Representation of Sp(4, Fq)
Let p be an odd prime, and let q be a power of p. Let G = Sp(4). B.Srinivasan (in [4]) discovered an irreducible representation (denoted by θ10) of Sp(4,Fq) with the following remarkable combination of properties, namely it is cuspidal(Defn. 4.1), unipotent(Defn. 5.8) as well as degenerate, i.e. it does not admit a Whittaker model(Defn. 4.2). The groups SLn(Fq) and GLn(Fq) do not have any unipo...
متن کاملThe geometric correspondence in some special cases
The geometric Langlands correspondence for function fields over finite fields has been proved by Frenkel, Gaitsgory, Vilonen in [FGV]. The aim of this article is to write translation for curves over C and prove the correspondence in some special cases and some new cases, outside the frame of the usual geometric Langlands correspondence. 1 The geometric version of Langlands conjecture We start b...
